Bio: I am the Vice President e-Publishing Solutions for Stilo International. Previously I was the founder and president of XIA Systems Corporation that was acquired by Stilo in 2004. I have been a practitioner with markup technologies for 20 years now, and I have played the role of solution architect (responsible for grand ideas and wildly optimistic visions) and project manager (responsible for the sometimes gruesome implementation details) for some of the largest and most ambitious content management environments ever undertaken (which explains why I am bald). Going further into the past, I was an officer in the Canadian Artillery and attended both Queens University (BA Literature and Mathematics - that famous combination) and the University of Oxford (Masters of Philosophy - what else). More recently, on the educational front, I have completed graduate programs in project management, requirements analysis and knowledge management (a strange form of pastime I will admit).

Currently I am stick-handling a number of large-scale projects in the areas of content migration, integration and tailored publishing. One of these projects can safely be described as the most sophisticated and ambitious content management environment ever contemplated let alone implemented.

Looking back over the last 20 years, I am myself amazed at the sheer number of projects in the field of intelligent content I have led. My roles have typically seen me both embroiled in the technical details and responsible for the overall business results. In terms of volumes, if I discount projects with a budget of less than $1 Million I still can identify over 100 discrete projects. The total dollar value of these projects long ago surpassed $1 Billion. And these projects have been undertaken in a wide variety of industry sectors including pharmaceuticals, healthcare, education, telecommunications, energy, government, engineering, and of course a lot of Aerospace & Defense.

Over the years, I have had the privilege to work with some of the most innovative implementers of markup technologies including Boeing, Samsung, Nokia, the US Department of Defense, the Russian Academy of Science, Alcatel-Lucent, Lockheed Martin, Xerox, the Canadian Government, AMEC Engineering, InContext Systems and NATO Headquarters.
