Content Convergence & Integration 2008

Session: SuperWoman, WonderWoman, UnderDog, and Leprechaun, with Flare: A case study in breaking down silos
Description
In this case study, a technical communicator looks at the progress of a documentation group, how she helps move it from an insular, service-based department not working well in the document management and distribution realm to a group that produces value-based content to help solve corporate problems, communicates with its internal company stakeholders, and demonstrates its worth on an ongoing basis.

This presentation reviews the challenges, triumphs, and mundane moments of moving from a ho-hum "single sourcing" environment to a more contemporary environment based on content-management principles. The presentation will focus on the business case for the project: how it was built, how key staff were drawn into the project, how the project gained a champion, and the long-term effects of the change. There will also be plenty of information about the technicalities of the project: choosing Madcap Flare as the platform, using a controlled vocabulary, concept keywords, and so on.
